Our Story

A Main Street Original

In May 1964, Joyce bought a little ice cream stand on North Main Street from Mrs. Ethel Hardy and named it Joyce's Flavor Isle.

She served old-fashioned milkshakes and floats from the walk-up window for fifty years — and in 2014, Smiths Grove lined the sidewalk with balloons and classic cars to celebrate her 50th anniversary with the very menu she opened with in '64.

The sign has been repainted, the grill has gotten busier, and Smashie showed up to answer the phones. But the promise hasn't moved an inch: fresh ingredients, made to order, served to neighbors like family.

Rolling down I-65? We're 0.7 miles off Exit 38 — take the exit and you'll find us on the left. Hand-patted burgers, thick shakes, and food that comes out fast when you're covering miles.

  • Mammoth Cave National Park is about 30 minutes away — book cave tours ahead at recreation.gov.
  • The National Corvette Museum is about 15 minutes up I-65 at Exit 28; Corvette plant tours need reservations.
  • We're a small-town diner, so check our hours before you swing by.
  • Traveling with a four-legged copilot? Ask for curbside pickup and we'll bring it out.
